Serge Gainsbourg

For my new month’s comment I would like to present you one of the most famous french singer : Serge Gainsbourg. I’m writting this article because last month I have seen a Gainsbourg movie centred on his life, its name is « Gainsbourg vie héroique » directed by the screenwriter and cartoonist Joann Sfar. More than a straightforward biopic, the film was rather a subjective portrait of the artist. Concerning his life he was born Lucien Ginsburg on 2 March 1991 and he was a French singer-songwriter, actor and director. Everybody know his differents love affairs with popular woman like Brigitte Bardot , the young English singer and actress Jane Birkin, the french teen singer France Gall…

But I would like to share one of my favorite song “Aux armes et ceatera” . It is a raggae version of the french national anthem “La Marseillaise” recorded in 1978 in Jamaica with Robbie Shakespeare, Sly Dunbar, and Rita Marley (the widow of Reggae musician Bob Marley). He was able to reply to his critics that his version was, in fact, closer to the original as the manuscript clearly shows the words “Aux armes et cætera…” for the chorus. Just below the clip of this song :
